Problem
Connecting Flanges with Different Pressure Classes
Solution
Custom Double Studded Flange Adapter
Success Since
2020

The Challenge:

The contractor ordered four chilled water pumps for the airport’s Central Energy Plant. When the pumps arrived on site after a sixteen week lead time, it was discovered that the flange on the pump was a different pressure class than the flange on the suction diffuser. This oversight threatened to delay the on-time completion of the project as the 48”overhead piping was already installed. The customer required a fast and compact solution to keep the project on schedule without redesigning the piping.

The Application:

Main Chill Water Pumps (CHW)
Media: Chilled Water
Temperature: 42°F
Pressure: 100 PSI

The Solution:

Traeger Brothers was able to save the airport from a huge setback in the project schedule by providing an engineered solution that allowed for the pumps to be connected to the existing piping. Traeger partnered with one of their trusted manufacturers to make and deliver a custom double studded flange adapter within two weeks. This would allow the 150# suction diffuser flange to be connected to the 300# flange on the pump. The custom adapter aided in connecting the equipment using the size and number of bolts required for the different pressure classes. By providing “Just-In-Time” delivery the contractor was able to complete the job on time with minimal overages to their budget.
